This month marks a big breakthrough for me. I've always known that at my core I'm a teacher. I've worked as a news reporter, anchorwoman, and talk show host, but each one of those jobs was only preparation for the real call on my heart.

In all the years of the Oprah show, I was happiest in the midst of aha moments, especially when I could share them with viewers. Those were the times I felt most alive. On the final show I wanted to share the most meaningful of those life lessons—but I couldn't begin to fit them all into one hour.

Now I've found the way to talk about the things that matter most in creating and sustaining your best life. And I'm going to do it every night with a new show (airing Monday through Friday at 8/7c), Oprah's Lifeclass, starting October 10 on OWN.

For months I'd been contemplating and brainstorming with my team about how to best use our library of 4,561 Oprah shows. One morning in mid-June, standing at the kitchen sink, looking out at Lake Michigan, it came to me—the breakthrough: Do what you've always wanted to do. Stop pretending you're anything other than what you are. As Maya Angelou says, "When you learn, teach."

So, the idea: Use the library of shows to share what I've gleaned about making sense of, and making the most of, our lives—with the goal of fulfilling the highest expression of ourselves. Don't we all want that fulfillment? I know for sure I do.

If you watch the news and the images it bombards us with—politicians running amok, despair, all-around craziness—you might think there's nothing you can do to make this world better.

I know that's not true. The world is a reflection of our collective consciousness. When a concerted mass of us start thinking differently, we will start to see change.

It begins with your own awakening, your own desire for a life that's not just lived on the surface but is rich and deep and high and wide. For sure, that's how I want to live. So I'm going to keep learning until I take my last breath.

And I'm stepping out to claim my calling. It's 25 years in the making. I'm ready.
