Michael Sam, the first openly gay player drafted into the National Football League, grew up a self-proclaimed "mama's boy" in the small town of Hitchcock, Texas. "I hated Hitchcock so much. ... I didn't want to be there," he says. "We lived by the railroad tracks. And so I would tell my mom I didn't want to stay here anymore. I want to go and leave."
Today, Michael and his mother's relationship is improving. Though she declined to be interviewed for the documentary, she agreed to let Michael read a letter from her on camera. Find out what she says to her son.
