Concha Hall, 67
Location: Montgomery, AL
Interview facilitated by Alandria Hall
After convincing her dad to let her and her sister join him for the legendary civil rights marches from Selma, Alabama, to the state capitol in Montgomery, Concha Hall and her family set off for St. Jude, Alabama. When they arrived, the massive crowd and the stifling weather overwhelmed young Concha.
"There were so many people there, and we were kind of all packed in there together," she says. "There was this field there, and it was this field of thousands of people. And I remember getting very hot that day. I couldn't breathe. I passed out, so I don't remember too much after that."
Watch as Concha explains what happened that day and how the marches affected everyone in her community.
