A star defensive player at the University of Missouri, Michael Sam was named as an All-American and the defensive player of the year for the Southeastern Conference. After finishing college, Michael made the emotional decision to publicly come out as a gay man.
In May 2014, Michael was eligible for the NFL draft. After six rounds passed in the draft, Michael was still waiting to be selected by a team. "The draft was the longest three days of my life," he says.
Michael ended up being drafted in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams, but he says he experienced a moment of doubt before finally getting that phone call. "Did I make the right choice of coming out and telling the world I was gay?" he says he thought to himself. At that moment, he says, he received the answer to his question in a moving sign of support. Find out who gave Michael peace of mind in the video above.
