Season 5 Episode 310
Aired on 04/25/2015
In 2009, animal rights activist Casey Anderson introduced Oprah to his best friend, Brutus, the 900-pound grizzly bear, via Skype. The Oprah Show
audience watched Brutus chow down on a salmon salad and a four-foot turkey sandwich, and now, he's back to share another delicious meal with viewers.
Today, Brutus is almost 13 years old, and he's still living at the Montana Grizzly Encounter, an educational sanctuary in Bozeman, Montana. "Brutus can't be in the wild because he didn't get to spend the first three years of his life with his wild mother," Casey says. "That's when bears in the wild learn everything they need to know to survive."
Since 2009, the Montana Grizzly Encounter has rescued two more bears. "Brutus has got a lot of new friends, and we just recently rescued a little orphan grizzly bear from Alaska named Bella," Casey says. "She's been a lot of fun."
In the above video, Casey explains how he takes precautions when he interacts with Brutus. Plus, watch as Brutus guzzles a pot of coffee.
