What Amy Grant Learned From Her Marriage to Vince Gill

Season 5 Episode 515
Aired on 10/10/2015 | CC tv-14
Christian music queen Amy Grant was offered her first recording contract before her 16th birthday. By the time she was 21 years old, she was a chart-topping gospel artist and a newlywed. Amy married fellow musician Gary Chapman in 1982, and together, the couple had three children.

Then, in 1999, Amy and her husband filed for divorce as rumors swirled that Amy was involved in an affair with country music star Vince Gill. The following year, Amy and Vince got married in a small ceremony on her farm. They recently celebrated their 15th anniversary.

Looking back at that tumultuous time, Amy says she wouldn't change the outcome. "I never give my image a second thought, ever," she says. "Life just turned out the way it did, and we all learned a lot of lessons. [Gary] is happily married to somebody else. I am thrilled to be married to Vince Gill."

Amy admits that it took awhile for life to feel familiar after marrying Vince. "We were sitting out in the backyard, and he said, 'You know, Am, I love you and I still feel a little bit like a stranger in my own life.' And I said, 'I'm so glad you said that. I do, too! Just a little bit,'" she says. "Then time goes by and it's suddenly all about the present. It eventually becomes about the life you're in and not the one that you won't ever return to."

In the above video, watch as Amy shares more lessons she's learned over the years.
