Veronica Shares Her Grievances with Jeffery

While sitting at the bar of the Artesian Hotel, Jeffery grows suspicious when his mother, Veronica, shows up wearing all black. When Jeffery asks Veronica about her grim wardrobe, she tells him that she is grieving quite a few things, including the end of her marriage with David and her son.

"I'm grieving the loss of my marriage. I'm grieving the loss of my son," Veronica tells him. "Although you're not dead, but soon you will be, if you keep going with these homosexual tendencies of yours."

Confused and frustrated with his conniving mother, Jeffery asks Veronica to leave, but she insists on sharing all of her grievances with him. As Veronica lists her grievances, Jeffery learns that Melissa is dead.
"What did you do?" he asks her. "I didn't do anything," Veronica counters. "She jumped off Hanna's roof." "What?" Jeffery asks again. "Don't act like you're so concerned about that girl," Veronica responds.

As Jeffery attempts to leave the bar, Veronica drops another bomb on him. With a smile, Veronica tells her son that she is also grieving his father.
