Katheryn's Prayer for Hanna

Hanna is at the hospital, paralyzed by grief. Her grandson, Quincy Jr., is dead.

Katheryn hears the tragic news and rushes to Hanna's side. She knows the pain of losing a child all too well, so she doesn't flinch when Hanna lashes out. "Hanna, I would tell you to calm down and pull yourself together, but it doesn't work—none of it," Katheryn says. "Unless you've lost a child, you don't get it. People don’t get it."

After Amanda committed suicide, Hanna's strong faith helped Katheryn to grieve. Now, with Hanna's deepest beliefs called into question, it's Katheryn's turn to help. Rather than comforting Hanna with false promises, Katheryn offers her mother-to-mother support.

"You need to pray God sends you this grief in waves so it doesn't overwhelm you," Katheryn says. "Oh, I hope he sends it to you in waves."
