When Wes Moore, a Rhodes Scholar, returned home from serving in Afghanistan, he saw his career go from strength to strength. From 2006 to 2007, Wes worked as a White House Fellow. He then moved to New York to begin a lucrative career in finance on Wall Street. But, despite his rise to success, Wes felt a growing sense of unease about his direction. Even though he knew, that the job meant financial security for his family, he says it felt like "expensive handcuffs."

"I felt like I knew with everything going on that this wasn't where my joy lasted," he says. "And I knew it was incredibly risky. I knew it was incredibly risky to go out. But I think I had to make a very conscious decision that I would rather flirt with failure than never dance with my joy."

Here, Wes reveals why he made the risky decision to walk away from his job and return to his beloved Baltimore determined to give back.
