Season 6 Episode 602
Aired on 11/23/2014 | CC
Timothy Shriver, the chairman of the Special Olympics, says one of his greatest teachers is a woman named Loretta Claiborne. Born partially blind and intellectually disabled, Loretta didn't talk until she was 4 years old. When she was 12, Loretta's older brother introduced her to running, and it was then clear that she had discovered her purpose. In 1970, 16-year-old Loretta competed in her first Special Olympics track meet. Since then, she has won dozens of medals and become an inspirational speaker.

Timothy met Loretta when they were both working for the Special Olympics in the New Haven office. Timothy says Loretta embodies some of the deepest spiritual lessons of being fully alive. He says she plays "like there's no scoreboard." Watch as Tim shares a moment when Loretta snapped him back to reality as he was preparing to meet the governor of Connecticut.
