At age 84, Edna Northrup, mother of Dr. Christiane Northrup, decided she wanted to climb to Mt. Everest's basecamp. "The first part of the hike, you start at 10,000 feet and you just keep climbing up and up," she says. "What I didn't realize it was 100 miles."

Still, nothing stopped her from completing the journey, which took 8 days. "I had two great sherpas, and each one took me on and said, 'Come on, Edna, you've almost made it," she says. "Then, we got up a little closer there's a whole group of people and they're all chanting 'Edna! Edna!'"

Now nearly 90, Edna is grateful for the life she has. "I look out there in the morning and take a deep breath and say, 'Wow, what a privilege I've had to live here all these years and enjoy it and have a good family.'"
