Shonda Rhimes on Saying Yes to Her Daughter's Adorable Question

Shonda Rhimes isn't simply producing some of the most popular shows on television. She's also a single mother raising three daughters: Harper, Emerson and Beckett, ages 13, 3 and 2, respectively.

Some might think that a celebrity with a hectic schedule might not have time for life's simple joys, but Shonda has made a point to spend quality time with her daughters—even when it might be an inconvenience.

For one year, the prolific showrunner decided to say yes to things she would have normally said no to, including when her 3-year-old daughter asked her to play. Now, even if she's about to head out for an important meeting, Shonda says, she drops her bags and spends a moment on the floor with her daughter.

"You know, she's 3," Shonda says. "It's 10 minutes, and she loves it, and it's changed my sense of being a mother and my sense of pride in being a mother, and it's changed our relationship, I think."

In the video above, Shonda explains how saying yes to a sweet question from her daughter changed their relationship for the better.
