Michael Pollan's New Take on the Children's Menu

Season 6 Episode 605
Aired on 03/29/2015 | CC
Nearly every restaurant menu has it's own special kids menu. Food expert Michael Pollan says doing away with separate children's cuisine can improve their diet and your family connection overall. "The idea that kids' food is hamburgers, French fries, and pizza and nuggets, and that's the classic children's menu," he says. "All of which, obviously, are not very healthy."

It also puts stress on parents during mealtimes. "We fell into this trap with my son. We cooked different things for us and for him because he didn't eat very much," he says. "It drives a line through the dining table. Eating from the same pot, eating the same food, puts people on the same emotional page. And if everyone at the table is eating something different, you lose a connection."
