DeVon Franklin on His Early Struggle with Abstinence

Season 7 Episode 722
Aired on 08/28/2016 | CC tv-14
Hollywood producer and minister DeVon Franklin has been preaching since age 15. "I was raised in the church," he says, explaining how his view on premarital sex was formed. "So from a very early age, I was always taught, you know, wait."

Still, in high school, DeVon did not practice abstinence and then felt guilty about living a double life. "When I got in high school, I didn't wait," he says, "but I was still telling people that I was waiting because I didn't have enough courage to let people know that I made a different choice in my life. ... So I was teaching people how to live, but I felt like I was doing that publicly, but privately I was doing something different. And the public person and the private person were at war."

Here, DeVon opens up about his early struggles with abstinence before becoming celibate for more than a decade until he married his wife, Meagan.
