Nova Gets Big News About Her Sister's Husband

Nova wears many hats. In addition to being a worldly-wise journalist and activist, she supplies a low-level drug dealer with marijuana. In this scene, she shames the dealer into showing up at a social justice rally with his friends, threatening to cut off his supply if he doesn't attend.

After they talk business, the dealer asks her, "What's your fine-ass sister have to say about that Gladiator shakedown?"

Nova has no idea what he's talking about, and the dealer explains that Charley's husband, who plays basketball professionally on the Gladiators, and four of his teammates have been accused of raping a woman in a hotel. Nova hasn't heard the shocking news—she and Charley aren't that close, after all—and she pauses to wonder what exactly is going on in her sister's life.
