Micah Comes Clean to Charley About the Fire at the Plantation

Season 3 Episode 311
Aired on 08/08/2018 | CC
After learning that Micah is a person of interest in the police investigation into the fire at Sweetbay Plantation, Charley pays him a visit at school and demands to know the truth. Micah reveals that he was involved. As Micah tries to explain to Charley how the accident unfolded, Charley grows angry and explains the magnitude of the crime he committed with his friends. "Accident or not, you understand that arson is a felony?" she says, getting in his face. "You were trespassing. You were vandalizing. You could go to jail, Micah. Don't you get that?"

Growing frustrated, Micah tells his mother that he understands what could happen to him. But he doesn't get truly upset until Charley orders him to stop hanging out with the other students who were there at the scene of the accident. "Listen to me," she says sternly. "You don't talk to those kids. You don't see those kids—"

"'Those kids' are my friends," he interrupts.

"Not anymore," Charley counters. "From now on, you don't know those kids."

Charley and Micah continue to lock horns, neither mother nor son giving an inch. But Charley has an important meeting to get to and can't argue indefinitely. She orders Micah to go straight home from school, but he tells her he needs to go see Nova instead.

"So you think you're grown now?" Charley says, her blood boiling. "Calling shots?"

"I just need to talk to Aunt Nova," Micah says.

"You don't need to talk to Nova," she replies firmly.

"I do 'cause, you know, she actually listens to me," Micah says as he begins walking off, "which is more than I can say for you."
