Near the end of Season 2 of Queen Sugar, the mysterious illness that had been affecting every part of Violet's life, from her romance with Hollywood to her burgeoning pie business, finally got a name: lupus.

Despite the dizzy spells, hair loss and frequent fatigue that accompanied her worsening condition, she kept it to herself until Hollywood found a medicine bottle that revealed the truth. In Season 3, Violet begins reckoning with what this means for her on a day-to-day basis.

Violet isn't alone. Approximately 1.5 million people in the United States have lupus, and 90 percent of them are women.

In September, join the masses around the country to participate in a Walk to End Lupus Now and show your support for the millions of people affected by lupus.

Finally, if you or a loved one needs more information or help understanding the disease, please contact the National Resource Center on Lupus.
