Whitney Houston's father, John, passed away in 2003. A year before his death, the Grammy winner and her father had become embroiled in legal drama when his entertainment company sued her for $100 million. The lawsuit, Whitney told Oprah during a 2009 conversation, caused a major rift between them, but she finally forgave him on his deathbed.

"It was a period of a couple years where we didn't speak at all," Whitney said. "But when he got sickly, really sickly, I went to the hospital, and I said, 'Let's end this right now. You're my father, and I love you, and I'm going to be here until the end. I'm going to be here, and I'm going to be the one who's going to take care of you.' And finally, you know, when it all kind of came down and, you know, it was the end, everything was in my hands."

Here, the music icon sets the record straight about her relationship with her father toward the end of his life, and reveals how she grieved after his eventual passing.
