Why Soap Star Deidre Hall Decided to Use a Surrogate Mother

Aired on 12/05/1995 | CC
Deidre Hall is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Marlena Evans, the cool, impeccably styled psychiatrist on the daytime soap opera Days of Our Lives. Her character has been at the center of many sensational storylines, but few of them were as dramatic as what she experienced in real life.

Deidre and her then-husband, Steve Sohmer, having learned of Deidre's infertility, decided to have someone else carry their baby for them, a controversial decision at the time. "I mean, I knew people would notice it, and I knew there would be a certain level of curiosity about it and about us," she said. "I had no idea what was coming."

Find out how Deidre chose a surrogate mother and what she did to help protect her privacy.
