On a 2006 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Grammy winner John Legend wowed audiences with his latest hits and opened up about what he thought of his swift rise to fame and fortune.

After the show, one fan wanted to know which three people—living or dead—John would most want to have over for a dinner party. His first choice: Motown pioneer Marvin Gaye.

"You read about him, and he seems like such an intriguing character, and he's one of my favorite musicians ever," John said. "I would want to just sit and pick his brain."
