Aired on 04/24/1997 | CC tv-pg
Growing up in a family with Asian, Black, Native American and Caucasian roots, Tiger Woods says it was never easy explaining his heritage to other people. During this 1997 Oprah Show interview, the golf legend revealed the portmanteau he invented as a child to help him navigate conversations about race and ethnicity, and explains why he ultimately came to identify as Asian and Black as an adult. Later, Tiger's father, Earl Woods, says that he hopes his son sees himself as, above all else, a member of "the human race."
