The Boy Who Learned How to Play the Accordion in His Dreams

Aired on 05/12/2008 | CC
How did Guyland Leday learn how to master the accordion? In his dreams, he says.

In 2008, Oprah introduced her viewers to the 10-year-old prodigy from Louisiana's bayou, whose fast-moving fingers were already the envy of accordion players everywhere. Hailed by The New York Times, critics called his talent spellbinding. Guyland said that when he was just 3 years old, his great-grandfather Delton Broussard, a famous accordion player, came to him in a dream and showed him how to play. The rest was history: Despite never taking a single lesson, this masterful musician was playing to packed houses across the country.

Here, Guyland shows off his impressive skills—and even gives Oprah a few pointers.
