An Oprah Show Audience Weighs In on the Rodney King Verdict

Aired on 05/13/1992 | CC tv-pg
In 1992, one year after the high-profile case of police brutality against Rodney King, The Oprah Show hosted a forum in Los Angeles in which members of the audience took turns sharing thoughts on every element of the case—from the assault footage and subsequent riots to the court proceedings, the verdict and role of the media in sculpting public opinion. As you will see, the guests had not come to a consensus on who was in the right, who was in the wrong, and what should have been done to ensure a case like this would never happen again. In many ways, this studio audience was a microcosm of America at that time.
