Evelyn's then-husband was arrested on charges of misdemeanor domestic battery, and days later, Evelyn filed for divorce. "I felt so defenseless," Evelyn says. "I used to think to myself, 'Could I have done something that day to change it? Did I do the right thing?'"
Although Evelyn is now happily engaged to professional baseball player Carl Crawford, she's still dealing with the emotional affects of her domestic dispute. To empower Evelyn and help her learn self-defense, her daughter, Shaniece, signs them both up for a jiujitsu class.
Evelyn says she'd like to learn something other then her "Bronx style" of fighting, which involves throwing a bottle or two.
