What 6 Sisters Must Understand to Fix Their Family

Season 4 Episode 415
Aired on 05/06/2017 | CC tv-pg
After spending time with six sisters and their mother, each of whom are struggling with intense issues of pain and dysfunction, Iyanla takes a moment to reflect on the experience and what this story can teach us about familial relationships. "A family is not just people who are related by blood; they are people who can relate," she says. "And that is not what's happening in this family."

What is happening, Iyanla continues, is that these women are being driven apart by various misunderstandings about each other, about themselves and about their mother. "They don't understand how they are connected—mind, body and spirit—through one mother who did the best she could, because she herself was so broken," Iyanla says. "I think it's time they get a real good look at what they're working with."

Iyanla's work with this family continues in Part 2, airing Saturday, May 13, at 9 p.m. ET.
