3 Generations of Men Address a History of Abandonment

Season 3 Episode 304
Aired on 09/20/2014 | CC
After sitting down with his parents, his children and the mothers of his children, Jay, a father of 34, is beginning to understand the dysfunctional pattern he's been repeating his entire life. As a boy, he was abandoned by his parents, and now, he has abandoned his own children. This pathology started with Jay and his father, and in order for Jay's son to avoid the same mistakes, Iyanla says all three generations of men must get clarity.

What did Jay's father teach him about being a man? And, what did Jay fail to teach his own son? "You needed my leadership. You needed my guidance," Jay says to his son Jay Wes. "I absolutely failed to teach you anything productive in terms of relationships with women."

Can Jay Wes forgive his father for his mistakes? Watch the above video to find out.
