Hot Boys Rapper Turk Admits to Firing a Gun During the Police Raid of His Home

Thirteen years ago, Tab Virgil Jr., aka Turk, was a young, successful rapper living a rather carefree life with his new girlfriend, Erica. Then, acting on a tip from someone Turk befriended, police stormed the artist's home in 2004 in search of drugs and an assault rifle. The raid resulted in two officers getting shot and Turk spending nearly nine years in prison.

Since his release from prison in 2012, Turk has been weighed down by the trauma and hiding behind a mask, Iyanla says, in an effort to protect himself. Yet, Iyanla knows that Turk cannot move forward before first acknowledging his role in the shootout.

"Did you have a gun?" she asks him.

"Yes," Turk says from behind an actual mask that Iyanla has had him wear.

"And did you shoot?" Iyanla continues.

"Yeah," Turk says. "Yeah."

Here, Iyanla presses the rapper to take responsibility for exactly why police showed up at his door, and guides Turk through an exercise to help him finally forgive himself for his part in the ordeal.
