Shay and Alicia's Blowout Fight

The broken relationship between 50-year-old Alicia and her 35-year-old daughter, Shay, has been as painful as it's been complicated. One roadblock that has been particularly challenging to overcome, according to Shay, has been the drama that occurred when she unknowingly dated a woman with whom Alicia had been secretly involved. When Iyanla brings Alicia and Shay together to sort through the conflict, however, each woman becomes too defensive to have a productive conversation. Instead, a huge fight erupts.

"I assumed that you knew [I was dating that woman]. Yes, it's my fault. Forgive me," Alicia says to Shay with anger still in her voice. "I honestly assumed that you knew about us."

Alicia then mentions that she believed that she and Shay had "gotten over that hurdle" of Alicia having relationships with women. This sets Shay off. Mother and daughter argue over each other in a shouting match about past events—"Ma, you smacked this girl when I brought her over to Kisha's house!" Shay yells at one point—until Alicia stands and demands respect from her daughter. She does not receive it.

"You're a liar! You're a f***ing liar!" Shay screams. "How are we going to heal if you can't be a hundred?"

"Girl, bye," Alicia says, walking past the film crew as she exits the set, but not before getting one final dig in. "She needs her weed so she can get her mind right."

"No, bitch, you need the truth! That's what the f*** you need!" Shay shouts at her mother's back.
