Jaimeka's Secret "Shame" Comes to Light

For more than two decades, 31-year-old Jaimeka has been keeping a secret buried deep inside, pushing it farther and farther down to avoid dealing with the pain of such a horrific experience. Now, at the House of Healing, it's time to confront the shame she's been hiding for so long.

Jaimeka's torment began at her eighth birthday party. An adult, who she does not name, brought her a gift—a purple umbrella—and told her that she could have it if she gave him a kiss. She gave him a peck on the cheek, but that "wasn't good enough." That man ended up putting his tongue in her mouth, and from that point on, Jaimeka says, she was continuously sexually abused by this man in her own home.

"I would be sleeping in my bed. He'd be in there in the middle of the night," she says through tears. "He'd just come and scoop me out of my bed and just take me in his room."

Because her alleged abuser had threatened her, Jaimeka was scared to tell her mother. When she finally did, however, she wasn't met with support.

"She said, 'You must have liked it because you didn't tell me,'" Jaimeka recalls.

Frustrated and frightened, Jaimeka says she used to run away from home to avoid the abuse.

"I hate that house, the house I was molested in," she says. "My mama loved that house, and I hate it."

Talking through her pain is overwhelmingly emotional for Jaimeka, so Iyanla invites her to visit the House of Healing's Whacking Room, a safe space where the houseguests can release their hurt and rage by whacking a heavy bag with a bat.
