Iyanla to Rape Survivors: Be Willing to Take Down Others to Save Yourselves

In the middle of her work with five male survivors of childhood rape, Iyanla has come to realize that each of these men is a gentle spirit. As commendable an attribute as this may be, it also comes at a cost. These men have spent years suffering in silence, focused on protecting others—particularly their mothers—from their trauma.

Now, Iyanla says, it's time for that to stop. "I want you today to be willing to take any- and everybody down to save yourself," she tells the men firmly. "You're going to be a footstool to everybody, particularly the thoughts that you got running through your mind. Take 'em down."
