Iyanla Reacts to a Mother's Story of Selling Her Body While Pregnant

Jackie, a mother of four, tells Iyanla that she got pregnant with her first child while still in high school and had three kids under the age of 5 by the time she was 21. Her eldest child, Nikki, was raised by Jackie's mother, Jackie says, after her mom kicked her out of the house for her bad behavior as a teen. But it's Jackie's experience with her other daughter, Breana, that elicits a stronger reaction from Iyanla.

As Jackie tells Iyanla, Breana's father got her into a life of prostitution that continued through Jackie's pregnancy. "[I was] working at a massage parlor. I was pregnant with Breana actually doing this," Jackie says. "I did that up until I was five months pregnant with her."

"Stop the madness," Iyanla says, shaking her head. "Stop the madness."

When Jackie adds that she told her children that she sold her body on the streets—which continued after Breana's birth—Iyanla doesn't mince words: "There's a lot of things kids need in life, but few of them need to know that their mama was a ho."
