Shay and Alicia Experience a Breakthrough

After a brutal fight between Alicia and her eldest daughter, Shay, the two seem to have hit rock bottom in their complicated relationship. Although both bear responsibility for the tangled mess, Iyanla feels that Shay crossed the line in how she spoke to her mother. So, Iyanla encourages the 35-year-old to apologize for being disrespectful—and that's when a breakthrough occurs.

Facing Alicia in the aftermath of their blowout, Shay wastes no time saying her piece. "Ma, I apologize for disrespecting you," Shay says. "I was very upset, and I shouldn't have basically lashed out on you, and I apologize for literally calling you out your name."

Alicia accepts Shay's apology and asks for forgiveness herself. "I really want you to forgive me, Shay. I'm a broken woman inside, and it wasn't that I was always mad at you. I just don't wear my feelings on my sleeve," Alicia says. "I'm hurt that, the relationship that we used to have, we just let that all go away."

Then, it's Iyanla's turn to speak. "She spoke her truth; you spoke your truth," Iyanla tells the women. "It's going to be okay. I think we've done all we can do in this moment with this. With this. We can't take this no further. Let's stitch it up, and then we'll figure out how to have the next level of conversation."
