Iyanla Challenges Lira Galore's Father to Stop Being Dishonest with Himself

Season 4 Episode 408

When social media sensation and former stripper Lira Galore checked in to Iyanla's House of Healing, she expressed the pain of growing up without feeling the support of her father. Now, her father, Terrence, is a guest in the House of Healing, but he still can't seem to grasp why Lira is upset with him. So, Iyanla explains it in no uncertain terms.

"Little girls who have daddies that care about 'em, look out for 'em, they don't end up on the pole," she says.

When Terrence dismisses Iyanla's assessment of him, she insists that he is being "dishonest" with himself. Upon hearing this, Terrence immediately becomes defensive. "This is an insult," he tells Iyanla. "I come here to pour my heart out to you, and you call me a liar?"

Iyanla then explains to Terrance the difference between dishonesty and lying. "Dishonest means that you don't acknowledge; dishonest means that you're not in touch with; dishonest means that you call it one thing when it's something else," she says. "I didn't say you were a liar. I said you were dishonest."

Iyanla encourages Terrance not to be defensive, but he appears fed up. "Stop judging me," he says. "Stop judging my child."

It's not about judgment, Iyanla points out. "It's about reality. What I'm telling you is what goes on in the mind, the heart, the spirit of a woman—a girl at 14 who's pregnant and has an abortion. What I'm telling you is what goes on in the mind and the heart of a woman who at 21 has a second abortion," she says. "What I'm telling you is that a woman who understands how valuable she is to her daddy doesn't have that experience."
