The Bishop Shares His Reservations About Signing the Divorce Papers

Season 3 Episode 309
Aired on 10/24/2018 | CC tv-pg
In light of all the chaos that has rocked the Greenleaf family, the bishop and Jacob are grateful to be able to enjoy some father-son-grandson time watching Winkie play with his model train. The bishop asks Jacob about Kerissa's whereabouts, and Jacob confesses to not being on her good side at the moment.

"Don't tell me because of you and Tasha," the bishop says.

Jacob is slightly caught off guard. "No. What about me and Tasha?" he responds.

The bishop explains that when he walked in on Jacob and Tasha's heated conversation, he sensed that something was amiss. However, Jacob assures his father that nothing was going on. "I don't play that way anymore, Pop," he insists.

The bishop gives his son a skeptical look before Jacob shifts the conversation by asking his father what he came to talk about. The bishop tells Jacob that he finally received the divorce papers—and that they remain unsigned. When asked by Jacob, the bishop denies having doubts, but he admits that things are complicated. "I don't see any way forward that looks right. God hasn't given me any clear path," the bishop says. "In the meantime, those divorce papers sit in my briefcase like a bomb."

"You don't want to sign 'em," Jacob says.

The bishop shakes his head no. "Then don't, Pop," Jacob says.

"Then what?"

"You have your jubilee. Let her have her day. You two go back to your corners. Fight's over," Jacob says.

"You think that's possible?" the bishop asks, hope creeping into his voice.

"Oh, I do," Jacob says confidently. "You're not really ready to sign. Not yet."
