Mac Pays Mavis an Unwelcome Visit

Season 1 Episode 103
CC | tv-pg
In Grace Greenleaf's family, the only thing that runs deeper than blood are the lies. Grace is the prodigal daughter of a powerful family that runs a mega-church in Memphis, Tennessee, and she is on a mission to take down her uncle Robert "Mac" McCready. Mac has been hiding a dark secret for years, and there's no telling what he'll do to keep it from the light of day.

Mavis McCready, Mac's sister, is primarily responsible for setting Grace—Gigi, as she's known in the family—on her course to uncover the truth about Mac's misdeeds. Thus, Mac decides to pay a little visit to the bar Mavis owns and operates in the heart of the legendary Memphis music district.

Mavis is just closing up when Mac appears out of the shadows and approaches the bar.

"What the hell are you doing here?" Mavis says in disgust.

"Just checking up on my sister," Mac says.

"Get the hell out of my place."

Mac attempts to intimidate Mavis by implying that he could persuade the mayor to use eminent domain to reclassify her bar as a historical landmark, which would force Mavis to give it up. "You want to keep your club?" Mac says. "You want to keep strutting up and down Beale Street like some kind of cheap-ass Jesus to these $3 ticket scratchers? Tell Gigi to leave it alone."

Having said his piece, Mac turns to leave, but Mavis stops him. "Mac," she says. "I don't know how you got to be the way you are. I don't know if Daddy did something I don't know about. Maybe Mama. I don't know. I don't care. God knows I had my share of pain from them, but I didn't go handing it on like it was some kind of gift. Now, it's one thing to be sick. It's another thing to go walking around peacocking about it. From what I remember of my Bible, that kind of prancing is reserved for Satan. You...you ain't going to win this time. This time, brother, you're going down."

For a moment, brother and sister lock eyes. Then, Mavis watches as her wicked brother recedes into the shadows again, laughing.
