Ashley Gets Real About the Difficulties of Being in an Interracial Relationship

Bryan wasn't what Ashley had in mind when she envisioned her soul mate, but that didn't stop her from falling in love with her now husband, even though he isn't the same race as her. Ashley and Bryan have a strong bond, but their union hasn't been free of challenges.

"I don't really want to be the poster child for interracial relationships because I'm not really the biggest advocate of it," Ashley confesses. She notes the many difficulties that come with interracial relationships, including the annoyance of fielding the occasional misguided compliment for not marrying a black man.

"Love is something that's beyond color," Ashley says. "But you have to have more than love to make a relationship work, especially if you're going to date outside your race."
