1. I absolutely, 100% hate tipping. It makes no sense at all. Why should I tip you for you just doing your job?

SUZE ORMAN: So you're in a restaurant, somebody waits on you. It should be your incredible joy to pay at least 15 to 20% of the bill there to tip them.

However, if you're gonna take food out, you call it in you’re gonna pick it up, no obligation. Got that? However, if you decide to call up and they deliver to you, you should tip them 10-15%.

Now, you go [for] a drink, you order one to two dollars a drink or [more], again 15-20 % of the tab if a lot of people are there.

Now, if you happen to see a tipping jar, no obligation. Don't worry about it. But you go somewhere and a valet brings your car to you, two to five boyfriend, $2 to 5 dollars.

DR.PHIL: It's a big part of their basic income, but seriously the places don't pay them minimum wage. They pay them less than minimum wage knowing that they're gonna get service fees, tips, and they work really hard for that.
2. Dr. Phil, how do I get my ex-husband to stop spoiling our children and become a united front with me before it's too late?

DR. PHIL: Okay, I wanna get right to the answer here because I wanna give you a checklist, and let me say that this is important whether you are divorced or whether you're not. What we do know is that when children go through divorce all of their needs are exaggerated because they're worried. I mean their base of operations is falling apart. If you're divorced you and your ex need to be consistent.

They need to have the same rules. They have to have the same discipline. They have to have the same schedules in each house. So they can't stay up 'til midnight here and nine o'clock over here. And if it's a good cop, bad cop thing that will backfire on you, I guarantee you.

You need to discuss important issues, medical needs, education, financial issues and you need to handle disagreements with your ex in a way that shows respect and keep talking. Look, don't sweat the little small stuff. If they're 10 minuets late bringing the kids back don't make a big deal out of it. There's a point at which these kids are gonna look back and see whether or not you put their interest above your own. Whether you did what you need to do to help them get through a difficult time. They didn't choose this divorce you did. Don't put them in the middle.
3. I'm currently facing bankruptcy. What steps should I take?

SUZE ORMAN: If you're currently facing bankruptcy, first of all, you have to know, should you be facing bankruptcy or not? Normally you claim bankruptcy, everybody. This is your guideline when you owe as much as you make. Please remember though, student loan debt is never dischargeable in bankruptcy in most cases so don't think if you have a lot of student loan debt, you're gonna get out of it that way.

However, wanna to claim bankruptcy...The way you have to do it if you qualify is you have to contact a nonprofit credit counseling service and just see do you qualify because not everybody qualifies to claim bankruptcy, whether you believe that one or not.

And you have to find out, do you meet this, what's called a "Means Test"? So, do you make less than the mean salary--the average salary--in the state that you live? You are gonna have to do things where you list your income and your debt.

Are you willing to give up your house? Are you willing to give up your car? These are decision you're gonna have to make. You should review your alternatives. There are always alternatives, everybody, when it comes to bankruptcy, and mostly you need to consult a bankruptcy attorney. This is not something that you should do on your own.
5. I'm gonna be a Freshman in college and I'm getting bombarded by credit card companies. Suze, how many credit cards should I really have?

SUZE ORMAN: Yeah, So Nicole, the truth is you only need one credit card. And the credit card that you have you should take very good care of, which means the following:

You better be able to pay it off in full at the end of every single month. If you get a credit card bill and you're only paying the minimum payment due, I'm here to tell you, you are already in credit card trouble.

Next, you have to know what kind of credit card should you have and the truth of the matter is, you're far better off having a credit card with a credit union than a credit card with a bank. Why? By law, federally charted credit unions cannot charge you more than 18% interest on that credit card. You can have a debit card. I like debit cards a lot. However, most debit cards that are out there have such high fees on them that currently, they are not worth the plastic they are used to swipe with and be very careful about store cards.

Do not go into a department store and they say, "Hey if you get one of these accounts today, you can save 10% on everything that you buy," don't. You don't need one. They're all at 23% interest or so. They are a waste of money. Stick to one credit card and one credit card only. The truth of the matter is if we were to ask this audience how many of them carry credit card balances, oh, we'd have almost every one of them standing up.
8. Every other month, I read some new study about how dangerous cell phones are. Do I really need to worry, Dr. Oz?

DR. OZ: The World Health Organization got a bunch of scientists together very recently and they looked at all the information and they decided to change the status of cell phones from safe to potentially carcinogenic. What they're saying is there's enough going on out there that we're getting a little concerned about it, because we know that the brain cells will change if you got a cell phone on that side of your head, And we know that some people seem to have more of these tumors in the ear and the brain area if it's on the side they've been using their phone. So, what would I do? Number one, use those corded headsets - you know, those little ear buds -when you're using a cell phone or a speaker phone if it's possible. You don't want to wear those ear attachments like jewelry. Those are antennas. They are still receiving radio frequency energy and if you got a poor signal, what does your cell phone have to do? It's gotta jack up its energy, right? And big deal.

Don't put the cell phone near you if it doesn't have to be near you. So don't wear it in your pockets if you're a guy, your pants pockets, because it reduces sperm counts. And when you go to sleep at night, move the cell phone away from your bed because every inch you move it away dramatically reduces the effect of that radio frequency on your body.
12. Suze Orman's final piece of advice.

SUZE ORMAN: Number one. Stay out of debt. As you get older, own your own home outright if you own a home.

Make sure that your cars are owned outright and believe it or not financially speaking, once you're in your 50's if you can afford it, please look into long term care insurance. One out of three of you will spend some time in a nursing home after the age of 65. It can be very, very, very expensive to the tune of 10, 20, 30 thousand a month if you do not have it. So when you get older you would be very happy if you're gonna live to a hundred that you do have long term care insurance.
13. Dr. Phil's final piece of advice.

DR. PHIL: One word: Passion. Passion. If you don't have a reason to live, If you don't have a reason to get up every morning and be excited about being alive, you will turn gray inside and out.

Find something that lights you up everyday. Model it for your kids. Do it in your life. It will keep you young. It will keep you moving. You gotta have a reason to get up in the morning.
