Miley Cyrus

She is a television actress, a singing sensation, a mogul worth millions—and she's only 14! Miley Cyrus stars in the smash hit Disney Channel sitcom Hannah Montana along with her dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus. An average teenage girl by day, Miley's character Miley Stewart leads a secret double life. At night, she dons a blonde wig and transforms into international rock star Hannah Montana.

Miley Cyrus is a true pop culture phenomenon. From books and clothes to purses and guitars, Miley and her alter ego are everywhere. She even has a feature film in the works! And Miley doesn't just play a rock star on TV—she is a multiplatinum recording artist in real life.

"It's insane how much is really going on and changing," Miley says. "But it's been so much fun, and I've just been really blessed to work with all the people I do get to work with."

When she's not taping television shows or spending long nights on the tour bus, Miley enjoys doing the same things as other girls her age. "I just love being with my friends. Because I work so much, [we] mostly do sleepovers and hang out and play guitar."

In fact, Miley says most of her life is just like an average teenager's—she even gets an allowance. "I get treated like a normal kid."

Despite her rock star status, Miley says she thinks she has even less freedom than most kids her age. "I probably have an earlier curfew than anyone, just because I can't be out too late. My mom wants to keep me really safe," she says. "My dad's not overly protective, but he's a dad no matter what."

She may enjoy the screaming adoration of her fans, but what matters most to Miley is her family. "No one messes with me and my family," she says. "We're so tight. They come first and foremost."

While she's on tour promoting her album Hannah Montana 2, Miley's mom, grandma and sisters keep her company. "We stay up all night and we watch movies and we hang out with the dancers and we all chill," she says. "It's really fun."

When her dad and younger brother aren't on tour with Miley, they try to catch up with her at stops along the way. "Without being home, we're never in the same spot where we can find a good time just for our family to hang out and have it private and just get to talk to each other," she says. "So that's how we find a little space and we can hang out, even if it's just for five minutes."

After Miley squeezes in some quality time with her family, it's all about the fans! Before the show, she signs autographs and chats with people lined up to meet her. "Seeing them out in the concert and hearing them sing every word that you've handwritten is insane," she says. "I think that's the most rewarding and special thing that I see in any of our shows."
Billy Ray Cyrus

Miley's not the first famous member of her family. Her dad, Billy Ray, topped the country charts in 1992 with his single "Achy Breaky Heart." Fifteen years later, his music career is still going strong with his new album Home at Last.

Billy Ray has found a different kind of popularity by playing Miley's TV dad in Hannah Montana. How does it feel to be the real-life father of a teenage phenomenon? "When I read the script [for Hannah Montana], I felt like it was very well written, and I felt like Miley was Hannah Montana and Hannah Montana was Miley," Billy Ray says. "Together they make a really strong package."

Between taping the show and singing together, Miley spends a lot of time with her dad. "It's fun," Miley says. "He's my best friend." But Miley says Billy Ray has an even closer friend, named Tex. "[My dad] is my best friend, but his best friend is our dog," she jokes. "On our way here, we were in a jet and the dog took the couch and I had to sit on the armrest of the couch so the dog could sleep!"

The temptations of Hollywood can lure young stars into making bad decisions, but Billy Ray says he doesn't worry too much about his daughter. "Miley's got a great heart. She's got a great head on her shoulders," Billy Ray says. "My part for Miley is to be there whether it's the good times or the bad times. I want to be the person that she calls and says, 'Hey, Dad, I [did] this,' or 'I want to talk about this,' or 'What would you do if this happened?' I just want to be Miley's friend and [for her to] know that I love her through the good times and the bad."

Miley says she has faced some pressure in Hollywood to act a certain way—but she hasn't bowed to it. "You don't have to fall into what everyone else is doing," she says. "I try my hardest just to stay grounded, because I have all these different kinds of people that are older than me, trying to tell me what to do. I just have to say be true to yourself. Be a kid. Grow up slowly."

To reinforce good role models, Miley says her mom, Tish, often brings her articles about celebrities she admires. "[Beyoncé is] her favorite person in the world, and my mom brings me every article," Miley says. "[She says], 'Look, she's so humble, but still amazing.'"

Now that she is a teenager, Miley says she is allowed to date—but not necessarily without supervision! "I had one of my guy friends over and [my dad] was hiding in the kitchen. We were outside just hanging out, and I look around [and say], 'Why are the lights on?'" she says. "[My dad's] standing there with his German shepherd watching us, and I'm like, 'Dad, you're going to scare him! I'm not going to have any more friends!' But he watches every move."

Billy Ray says it didn't quite happen like that. "I was kidding him because they knew I was there," he says. "It's not like I was spying."

"Are you nervous about the whole dating thing?" Oprah asks.

"Not as nervous as I am meeting you," he tells Oprah. "Meeting you—now that's nervous!"
