Lady Antebellum's Oprah Show Debut
People magazine calls Lady Antebellum the hottest country group around—and with good reason. Fresh off their first Grammy win for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood are burning up the charts with their second album, Need You Now.
During their Oprah Show debut, Lady A (as they're known to fans) reflects on hearing their song played on the radio for the first time. "It was Rochester, New York," Charles says. "We had just had dinner with [the DJ] that night, and we called in and said: 'Can you please play this song? We've never heard it on the radio.' And he did, and the tears started coming."
As country music becomes more mainstream, Dave says the group works to create music that's true to the heart of the genre. "I think we're all still writing about the same stuff," he says. "We try to write honest songs about experiences that we've been though. So that's never changed."
Hillary says many of their songs come from real life—mostly hers. "The three of us write together, and we'll also bring in a co-writer sometimes," she says. "They like to take advantage of my personal life. 'What's going on with you? What do you want to write about? Heartbroken this week? Let's write about that!'"
