Nate Berkus is a pro when it comes to surprise home makeovers, and he's about to give one unsuspecting mom the wake-up call of a lifetime!

Dan, a husband and father of five boys younger than 5, wrote to The Oprah Show asking Nate to lend his magic touch to the family's master bedroom. "Please help my wife have the place she needs and deserves to help her relax at the end of her endless days," Dan wrote. "Please help her feel like she has her own little getaway inside the locker room she is calling home."

Dan's Skyping™ into the studio from his home office outside Salt Lake City. "[My wife Stephanie's] a master aesthetician, so she loves to be pampered and loves to pamper, but all she does right now is wrangle this house and keep these boys in line," Dan says. "She has no place and no time to relax."

Nate's got a message for Stephanie and wants to deliver it face-to-face, so he and Oprah send Dan upstairs to get his wife out of bed.
Dan and Stephanie

Stephanie is shocked to see that Oprah and Nate are waiting with a morning greeting. "I understand what this is like—you just woke up. You're on national television. It's a shock to you," Oprah says. "But we were looking at pictures of your bedroom right now, and it looks like you could use some help."

"Oh my goodness," Stephanie says. "You think?"

"I have a lot of ideas to share with you for how your bedroom could be a retreat for you at the end of the day," Nate says. "But my best and biggest idea is at your front door."

Dan and Stephanie go to the front door and find an unexpected houseguest—Thom Filicia of Style Network's Dress My Nest. Thom says he's going to have the master bedroom entirely redecorated by the end of the show! "Here's how I'm going to do it," Thom says. "With [the help of] this fabulous crew with me."

Thom's got an army of people from Lowe's on board to help with the one-hour makeover, but it's a race against the clock. At 30 minutes to go, the team is frantically painting and hanging light fixtures. They still have to bring in new furniture, reposition what's already there and update the windows and carpeting. "I'm extremely nervous right now, but everyone here is amazing and we're going to make it happen," Thom says.

After only 60 minutes, Thom and his team have turned Stephanie's boy's club bedroom into a beach-inspired retreat.

To start, Thom repainted the walls with a coral color. "I wanted to bring little elements of the beach in, and the color was really important," Thom says. "There's nothing easier and less expensive than just going with a fabulous color on your wall." For another seaside touch, Thom replaced the ceiling fan with a coral-inspired chandelier.

Thom tackled the floor, windows and lighting next. In the old layout, Stephanie and Dan's bed faced the bathroom, so Thom repositioned the furniture to make the windows the focal point. Then, he added plenty of lamps and a rug on top of the carpet. "Very basic carpet is great, but layer it with a really beautiful rug that compliments it and gives it a hit of power," Thom says.

"This is all about Mom having her sanctuary. You deserve it," Thom says.

"I love it," Stephanie says. "Everything is beautiful."

The makeover's complete, but an hour after her wake-up call, Stephanie's still in shock! "I thought it had to be an anniversary surprise with the kids, but then I saw cameras! And Oprah! I am thrilled," she says. "It couldn't have been better."
