Sons Jay, 22 (left), and Jordan, 15, join their father for a stroll. Jay will join his father occasionally on the show. "Jay is a great conduit," says Phil. "Who do you think kids are gonna talk to? Dr. Phil will focus more on coping-skills education than quick fixes

Dr. Phil will focus more on coping-skills education than quick fixes.

"We don't think we're doing eight-minute cures on television," he says. "What I want to do is be an emotional compass. If one couple's issues are relatable to the millions watching, they become teaching tools. Through intervening, you point out the action steps to people who aren't on the stage. Then it's up to them. The real work starts when they leave the show."
