Funny, ironic, cranky...
and always fast on his feet, David Letterman may seem prickly on the outside, but peel away those layers and you'll find a very tender heart and a lovely man. Guesting on his show was both nerve-racking and thrilling for me, and I'll be watching when he says goodbye on May 20.

Are socks the new neckties?
I first noticed the wildly patterned sock trend when favorite son Will came home for Christmas wearing a pair of these from Stance. But expressing individuality via cool socks is not just for 20-somethings: All kinds of men are putting their fashion where their feet are—which reminds me, Father's Day is June 21. In 5 Flights Up...
Morgan Freeman and Diane Keaton are a husband and wife who have made a home and coaxed their dog through old age in a large Brooklyn apartment, but now they can't help wondering whether it's time to downsize. Their chemistry is palpable and their affection is deep, and this little gem of a movie reminds us to really appreciate what we have.

I've found a future book club author...
14-year-old Jacobi Copeland (back row, second from right), a student at the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, which gives kids the drive to thrive. When Jacobi and his classmates came to O for a visit and a Skype session with Oprah, he said: "I've seen the power of words...how they can inspire people to do amazing things...and keep them hopeful no matter what stands in their way." He left all of us wishing we could go to Mr. Clark's school.

I love a good burger...
but that doesn't mean I won't give a vegan diet a try—especially when it's Beyoncé approved. She's partnered with her personal trainer, Marco Borges, to launch 22 Days Nutrition's service offering weekly home delivery of plant-based meals. Everything is gluten- and soy-free and, dare I say, tasty! Filling? Yes, and a good way to form smarter eating habits.
