The Joys of a Sleeping Porch
"A screened sleeping porch makes the ultimate guest bedroom. It's such an escape—like camping for adults." —Jon Carloftis, landscape designer, Erwinna, Pennsylvania
Sun tea

Step away from the stove! Brew sun tea.
Add 8 to 10 teabags to a gallon of water in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. Place in direct sunlight and forget about it for 8 hours. Serve over ice.

Five-star s'mores, without the flame—New York City chocolatier Jacques Torres turns this campfire classic into a 15-minute pièce de résistance.

  • Cut graham crackers to cover the base of an ovenproof cake stand or pizza pan.
  • Bring 3/4 cup of heavy cream to a boil and pour over 10 ounces of dark chocolate. Mix until smooth; spread evenly on crackers.
  • Cover with about 2 cups of mini marshmallows and bake at 400° until browned (about 3 minutes). Yum.
