Home Made Simple
designer Kenneth Wingard shows this family how to take a beautiful old ladder and turn it into a living room focal point.
Two wooden ladders
16 3-inch screws
8 6-by-1 1/8 inch L brackets
8 1/2-inch screws
Paint (matching wall paint)
Cut the wooden ladders to desired size using handsaw.
Sand down the ladder to smooth out any imperfections. Use the stud finder to locate the studs. This is where you will attach the ladder. Determine the height you want ladder shelves on the wall. Using a screw gun, attach the lower L brackets to the wall.
Mount ladder on top of the lower L brackets on the wall. Attach the lower L brackets to the ladder from the bottom up using the 1/2-inch screws and a screw gun or screwdriver.
Using a screw gun, attach the upper L brackets to the wall.
Lastly, attach the upper L brackets to the ladder using the 1/2” screws and a screw gun or screwdriver.
Paint L brackets to match wall color.
