Biography of Aine McAteer
Aine McAteer has been dedicated to exploring the connection between food and health for the past 35 years. What began as a decision to heal a personal health issue in her late teens has evolved into a career that has taken her around the world. Her passion for food and dispelling the myth that healthy food must sacrifice taste has earned her a reputation as personal chef for many of Hollywood's A-list stars.
McAteer is the author of the renowned Recipes to Nurture, which focuses on macrobiotic principles of balance to turn organic produce into delicious dishes, which, in the words of actor Pierce Brosnan, "excite the palate in the most nourishing way." The cookbook has been published in three continents and was voted "best health and nutrition cookbook in the world" at the Gourmand World Cookbook awards in 2004. McAteer is publishing her second cookbook in 2010—part of a macrobiotic series—on healthy recipes for children.
McAteer studied with leading macrobiotic teachers Michio and Aveline Kushi and Herman Aihara, excelled in spa cuisine at the Peter Kump Cooking School in New York and Asian cuisine at the Institute of Culinary Education, also in New York. She also specialized in Eastern and Western food and healing with Annemarie Colbin at the Natural Gourmet Cooking School in New York, and has studied Thai cuisine at the Koh Samui Culinary Institute in Thailand and at the famous Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok. She spent the summer of 2009 at the hotel cooking with its chefs at the request of her client, actor John Cusack. Her recipes are heavily influenced by extensive international travel and exploration of the cuisines of different cultures.
McAteer encourages a holistic and natural approach to health and wellness. She has had the opportunity to be involved in the healing journey of many people with health conditions such as cancer, hepatitis C and multiple sclerosis through the nurturing of the body and soul.
