Lady of The Canyon
When Oprah vowed that 2017 would be her Year of Adventure, full of exhilarating new experiences and broadened horizons, she knew exactly where to start.“Let’s go to the Grand Canyon!” she told creative director Adam Glassman.

“I want a Cheryl Strayed moment.” And away they went, with a perfectly grand vision for our cover. Of course, Oprah, with her glam squad in tow, wasn’t exactly roughing it, but she did rise at 2:30 a.m. to get a gorgeous sunrise shot. The crew agreed that greeting the dawn at one of the world’s natural wonders was nothing short of spectacular. And Oprah was wild about the adventure, exclaiming,“I love this cover!” We do, too.

Rock Steady
Despite strong winds, Oprah and Adam stayed balanced–and had a blast!

By The Numbers
6,000: Deepest point of the canyon in feet.

3: Hours it took the O crew to prep— but they had just 20 minutes to get the sunrise photo.

60,000+: Mule rides taken in the canyon since 1887—three of them by Oprah, Gayle, and Stedman.
