Kelly Clarkson's Favorite Things

Q: What is your favorite way to spend a day?   

A: My perfect day off is at home. And I'm walking on my land. I have horses and my dogs and my whole family lives here. So I'm hanging out with my nieces and my nephew and my whole family. My perfect day off is just chilling and not going anywhere and not even looking at my car or pretending like I don't have one. And I don't look at my phone or my computer. That's one thing I'm really adamant about, when I go home, I'm home. ... I love my work. I love what I do. My career is awesome, and I'm very thankful. But I have a life outside of it. So it's important to manage that.  

Q: You mentioned that you often play board games on your tour bus. What kind of games do you like to play?    

A: It's going to be embarrassing  the list of games I could give you. We love Farkel, we love Sequence, we love Scrabble...we'll play really anything. Yahtzee, we love Boggle. I could keep going. We are huge game people. It's fun—we're all out on the road and there's nothing to do sometimes on the bus.

Q: What's playing on your iPod?   

A: I listen to a lot of Patty Griffin all the time. I saw Kings of Leon open for U2 like four years ago, and I've been a big fan ever since. I love this new album of theirs. It's just so great. They have two songs out right now...one song is called "Use Somebody," which is so good. And another song called "Sex on Fire," which sounds weird but is really good. It's just like a cool throwback to real rock. 

You know when you watch awards shows and the people in the rock 'n' roll category you're like: "What? You're pop, you know that, right?" Or like: "You're alternative rock. Not rock. Metallica is shooting themselves right now." It's funny how things have become kind of pseudorock, which is a fine thing. You know, college rock. I get it, it's popular, but Kings of Leon sounds like rock, like rock 'n' roll, but it's still accessible. It's still pop, it's still there. It's pretty cool.  

Q: If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?  
 
A: I'm a huge fan of Australia. I love Australia. I love the people. It's just beautiful. I'm weird. My favorite two places are Australia and Boston. I know that sounds funny, but I love Boston. Every time I go there I have such a great time. They have some really cool music clubs there. The people are really cool. I'm a big sports person. ... Those people are like Texas fans. How much we're into the Dallas Cowboys is how much they're into the Red Sox.  

Q: If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?   

A: I don't know any of my grandparents. I've never known grandparents, to have that. I don't even think I'd pick anyone historical. I think it would be cool to sit down with one of my grandparents and just talk, because they were all very different and they all had very, very hard upbringings and lives.
