Emily Blunt
The Sunshine Cleaning star gives us a peek into her passions, including books and National Geographic. Plus, the album she says you must run out and buy.
What inspires her: Books. I think a good book can change your life. I think To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that did that. Honestly, when I read The Kite Runner I couldn't sleep for two weeks. It clicked my brain into a different way of thinking and regarding people. That tragic story about how the father was the king of the world in Afghanistan, and then he's filling cars with petrol and no one knows who he is and people are speaking to him in a derogatory way. I found it very upsetting. It upsets me still when I think about it—how you don't really know where people are from and what their story is. How everyone must be given the benefit of the doubt. That was one of those books that clicked my brain into a different direction.
If she could have dinner with anyone, living or dead: I'm obsessed with [naturalism], so it would be David Attenborough.

Favorite TV show: I should say Oprah! It's funny, because I have guilty pleasures, like American Idol, but then I also love to watch Planet Earth
Currently playing on her iPod: Let me just have a look, actually. I'm going to check my recent playlist. I'm listening to Ray LaMontagne, a lot of indie bands here in America, which are new to me, like Death Cab for Cutie and Wilco. I love Otis Redding. I've also been listening to Kanye West. It's a wide variety for me. I love Lupe Fiasco as well. Oh, and Keane! I love Keane—love, love, love. And the new Kings of Leon album is unbelievable—you must run to buy it! It's so good, you feel like you've known these songs forever.
Favorite meal: I'm going to have to be honest because I'm on a new healthy regime at the moment, but I'm going to have to go against that and say it's a cross between—oh my gosh, it's so hard—like a pizza with burrata cheese and basil. That would be one of the faves. I could eat maybe 10. But I also love my mom's roast chicken. And I love lasagna. My new healthy regime though is basically trying to cut out things like pizza—ha! I'm working out, and I'm cutting out pizza.
She's most grateful for: The way I was brought up. I feel like it's given me a direction and a path to walk that's very safe and doesn't wobble.
