Since filming Leap Year , Adams has wrapped The Fighter with Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, but she's putting other projects on hold for one very big role—motherhood. In December 2009, Adams announced she and fiancé Darren Le Gallo are expecting their first child. "It's sort of surreal; I'm so excited," she says. "It's something I've always wanted, but I've been so focused on work that I never really focused on family."
Adams says she can't wait to see what motherhood brings. "I'm just excited to sort of get to build my own traditions and to sort of see who this person is and get to learn from my child as well as teach my child about the world I live in," she says. "But I can't wait for my child to teach me about the world I live in."
Like any first-time mom, Adams admits she's a tad nervous. "Of course I have those moments: 'I want to be a good mom. Am I going to be a good mom?' But I think that's pretty normal," she says. "All my concerns and worries, they've been felt for centuries. Both of my sisters have kids, so I feel I've got a great support system."
Adams and Le Gallo are also moving full speed ahead with their wedding plans. "It's in the near future," she says. "It's been great because I was working so much that we had actually pushed the date because of a job initially. So it's nice to actually have some time to plan a wedding—or make the time. That's how I look at things. It's not, 'Do I have the time?' It's, 'Am I making the time?'"
Whatever comes her way this year, Adams is waiting with open arms. "My resolution is to be really flexible and just live with no regrets," she says.
