Books often let us
become the characters as we read, which is the pleasure of reading this novel
about first love. You get to relive your own first love—and your own
first heartbreak. The feeling with Spencer's book is so intense (and real), it
may be a treat to follow it with the film version this February, where young,
impassioned, headstrong people, who absolutely aren't you (i.e., Gabriella
Wilde and Alex Pettyfer...not
Brooke Shields and Martin Hewitt), fall for each other and try to survive it.
